Aston Villa have been rather busy over the previous few transfer windows when it comes to bringing new players into the club and moving some out in the opposite direction.
With the next summer window in mind, it seems as though the Midlands club could be involved in numerous deals once again, particularly over two of their current key players.
What’s the talk?
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist and transfer insider Dean Jones had this to say about the possibility of Villa selling right-back Matty Cash to Atletico Madrid for the reported fee of £40m that was mentioned back in January when the upcoming summer transfer window opens.
He said: “It would be a great deal for Villa because I think they would see him as a player that they can replace. Also, that money can basically fund a transfer for [Philippe] Coutinho and I think that’s one way to look at that.”
Gerrard mistake
Since arriving at the club back in the 2020 summer transfer window in a deal worth £16m from Championship side Nottingham Forest, the £24k-per-week Cash, has made himself a vital player for the Villans by making 59 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing six assists in the process.
Having played more minutes than any other Villa player at this stage of the campaign, it’s safe to say that Steven Gerrard sees the Poland international, who has been praised for his “outstanding” performances for his team in the past, as an important figure in his squad.
However, with Coutinho taking the Midlands club by storm since his arrival on loan from Barcelona in January, scoring four goals and providing three assists in ten league appearances, it’s easy to see why Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens would be keen on securing the Brazilian on a permanent deal.
Taking this into account, it seems as though, going off what Jones had to say, the hierarchy at Bodymoor Heath may have to come to a decision over whether it would be worth getting rid of Cash to make sure they land their Brazilian loan star.
In our view, it would be somewhat of a mistake from both NSWE and the manager if the Midlands club were to get rid of their industrious right-back at the end of the season, in hand providing Gerrard with an extra job of having to find a suitable replacement, which may be quite difficult.
