Whilst Portsmouth will be rebuilding next season in the Championship, many of their players will be finding new clubs. The financial burden and uncertainty that surrounds the club means a fire sale is even occurring now. With teams such as newly promoted Newcastle United, Sunderland, Bolton, Birmingham City and Wolves all looking to strength next season. Who exactly is worth a punt from Pompey for these clubs?

Nadir Belhadj

The Algerian international is a player who divides opinion considerably. In some circles he is seen as a reckless wing back who is incapable of tracking back or having much of a teamwork ethic. To others he is an extremely talented player whose pace and dribbling skills can give even the meanest of defences a torrid time. What is clear is the 27 yr old left back is too good for the Championship and securing a move to either a Premier League or La Liga side is on the cards. I think Belhadj would be a decent signing for most clubs in the summer. He has all the attributes for the modern day wing back and could fit into an attack minded side. With the sensational form of Jose Enrique at Newcastle United, do not expect the Geordies to make a move. Sunderland could be a destination for the Portsmouth player. Don’t rule out bids from Birmingham City, Bolton and Wolves.

Jamie O’Hara

The much talked about future of the on loan Tottenham Hotspur midfielder rolls on after some incredibly impressive performances at Portsmouth this season. O’Hara is a player who offers 100% commitment on the pitch. He works very hard and can pick out a pass well. At Portsmouth this season he has proven when given a regular starting role, O’Hara can really hit top form. Despite his resurgence it looks unlikely Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will keep him on. O’Hara is known to want regular football and with Spurs recently adding Brazilian Sandro to their already bulging midfield ranks, it looks unlikely to occur at White Hart Lane. Jamie O’Hara is most certainly worth acquiring and possible destinations are the usual suspects. Newly promoted Newcastle United may take an interest if they decide they no longer require the services of bad boy Joey Barton. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is known to be an admirer of the box-to box player. Furthermore Birmingham City shall be strengthening considerably throughout the summer and Jamie O’Hara could offer them some real bite in the centre of midfield.

Kevin Prince Boateng

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was only signed by Portsmouth last summer, but has impressed enough this season to remain a Premier League player. The German born Ghanaian is only 23 yrs old and has a long future in the game. Currently suffering from an ankle problem recently it is unsure whether the midfielder will feature again this season for Pompey. His pace is his strongest ability and he seems to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time to support his strikers. Despite a well publicised ‘shopping addiction’ (yes, these boys live in the real world) Boateng would be a good punt for a Premier League side. Expect the likes of Bolton, Wigan Athletic and Wolves take an interest in his services.

Frederic Piquionne

The lanky Lyon striker is something of a conundrum to some and those may question why I believe he is worth a punt. But when this lad is in the mood he can be pretty lethal. At 31 yrs of age, Piquionne is no spring chicken, yet if a short term deal with a nominal fee paid to Lyon can be agreed (which is likely) then he is worth signing. 10 goals in 38 games is not exactly world class but playing in a team devoid of form, confidence and at the bottom of the table it is not too bad. Much like his Portsmouth colleague Kanu, Piquionne has legs like rubber that bend to his will. He can hold up the ball exceptionally well and get out of the trickiest of spots. The Lyon man additionally has the ability to conjure something out of nothing. Frederic Piquionne himself may decide he wishes to move back to France, but if he wishes to remain in the Premier League I would expect Bolton, Wolves and maybe Blackburn Rovers looking to acquire his services.
