Sunderland narrowly snatched a draw at home to Fleetwood on Tuesday but the visitors had remained resolute at the back for more than 90 minutes.
As a result, former Sunderland player Stephen Elliott has highlighted defender Harry Souttar for praise, suggesting that he is the best centre-back he has seen the Black Cats come up against this term. The 21-year-old is 6’5 and used his physicality to his advantage on Tuesday as he made a remarkable 13 clearances, though Kyle Lafferty’s introduction made life more difficult for him, and helped Max Power score a vital equaliser.
Nevertheless, several supporters are in agreement with Elliott and have also praised the youngster’s impressive display, with one fan stating that he is keen for the Black Cats to sign him.
Souttar started his career at Stoke and given he is already capped, scoring four goals in two games for Australia, he may be a sensible addition given his youth.
Here is some of the reaction to his performance at the Stadium of Light, as one fan joked he is a ‘9 foot 3 colossus’.
