According to a recent Football FanCast poll, a huge majority of Liverpool fans would support a move for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, despite the form of Joe Gomez in recent weeks.

The Liverpool Echo recently reported that Virgil van Dijk had claimed his Netherlands teammate de Ligt would already be on the Reds’ radar, and that he would offer his advice if Jurgen Klopp and the hierarchy wanted to sign the 19-year-old, and it’s clear that Liverpool fans are keen for this to happen.

Despite his young age, De Ligt is already the captain of Ajax after coming through the famous youth system, and he already has 13 caps for the Dutch national side.

In total, 96 per cent of the Liverpool fans that answered our poll wanted the Merseyside club to make a move for him, even though 21-year-old Gomez has excelled in the central defensive role alongside Van Dijk so far this season.
