Lucas Moura had precious little cutting edge as Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 to Southampton at St Mary’s.
On the chalkboard
The Brazil international has been in poor form for Spurs under Jose Mourinho in recent weeks.
He scored three goals in the Portuguese’s first five games in charge but he has not netted or provided an assist in the past four games.
Against Southampton, he was poor again.
Per WhoScored, he touched the ball 55 times but he could not truly impact the game in the final third.
He attempted six dribbles but completed just two of them and did not manage to provide a key pass.
In total, he had a passing accuracy of just 59%, lower than any other Spurs player to start the game.
Lucas did manage to have three shots on goal but one was off target and two were blocked.
The 27-year-old did put in some effective defensive work, winning four tackles, but this was a poor showing from the former PSG star.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
Lamela’s time
It’s about time Lucas was dropped.
He has averaged a rating of just 6.5 in the last four games and, in that time, Spurs have won just once, beating Brighton & Hove Albion on Boxing Day.
Erik Lamela is back to full fitness and played some part in the loss to the Saints, coming off the bench to replace Harry Kane after the striker’s injury.
While he may be a little rusty – he has missed nine Premier League games this season due to a hamstring injury – he simply cannot be any worse than the Brazilian.
Perhaps some time on the bench will also allow Lucas to refocus and get back to the form he was in immediately after Mourinho’s appointment.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans want one man to leave in January.
