Everton have won their first Premier League game since the beginning of December with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Leeds United in Frank Lampard’s first top-flight game in charge at Goodison Park.
Michael Keane, Seamus Coleman and Anthony Gordon all found the back of the net on Saturday afternoon in a must-win fixture as the Toffees secured an important three points as they attempt to pull away from the relegation zone towards mid-table safety.
Leeds failed to have any shots on target during the game compared to their opponents’ 10, and despite having 58% possession, the visitors were unable to break down the solid Toffees rearguard.
One player who was crucial in stifling the Whites’ creativity was Michael Keane, who put in an outstanding all-round performance, offering both offensive and defensive contributions throughout to secure Everton their fourth clean sheet of the season and their first in more than three months.
According to SofaScore, the 29 year old – who was dubbed “outstanding” by Gabby Agbonlahor – not only scored the second goal of the game for his side, but also won 75% of his duels and made three interceptions and two clearances.
Keane has had an inconsistent season which has seen him score an own goal at Carrow Road and put in a string of poor performances, but the defender will have redeemed himself to an extent after giving a masterclass against Leeds on Saturday afternoon.
Lampard will be thrilled to secure an overdue Premier League win and will be hoping that this performance from Keane and his team-mates can push them on towards enjoying an improved second half of the season.
