With Victor Wanyama’s future at Tottenham in doubt following an enquiry from Championship side West Brom, Spurs may have to be on the lookout for a new midfield destroyer to replace the imperious Kenyan and the powerful Mousa Dembele, who have both struggled for fitness this season.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the Daily Mail report that the Baggies are keen on the former Celtic man, but he has no interest in dropping down into the Championship. The north Londoners are however open to offers for the man they signed from Southampton, as he has shown no encouraging signs in his battle against niggling knee injuries.
Wanyama has started just one Premier League game for Mauricio Pochettino’s side so far this season, so even if they don’t manage to offload the midfielder, Spurs will most likely be on the lookout for a replacement.
One man who looks to be an exciting candidate for the aforementioned ‘midfield destroyer’ role is 20-year-old Genk star Sander Berge, who has been delivering some consistently brilliant performances for the Belgian side for a while now.
The Norwegian has 12 caps for his country, and looks to be another fine product out of the Belgian Pro League that has blessed England with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Christian Benteke and Vincent Kompany.
Why would Liverpool hijack any deal?
The Premier League leaders used to lack a physically dominating figure in the middle of the park before they signed Fabinho back in the summer.
Who has the loudest fans in Europe? PSG certainly state their claim in the video below…
His arrival has since seen Jurgen Klopp’s midfield become one of the most formidable in the league, as a result of the Brazilian’s excellence paired with the likes of Naby Keita, Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Xherdan Shaqiri.
The former Monaco man is, however, the only midfielder of his type at Anfield, and a move for a player of similar ability and ilk wouldn’t go amiss – especially one as young and precocious as Berge.
Klopp would’ve had backup to Fabinho in terms of a physical presence in the middle if Emre Can had stayed at the club, but the German decided to leave for Juventus. In the young Norwegian, however, they could get a player who goes on to be twice as good as Can ever was.
