Just when you thought West Brom couldn’t get any stronger they remind you of the incredible depth they have in their team.
The Baggies have been the dominant force in the Championship this term, leading the pack for the vast majority of the campaign.
While the Midlands club have been impressive it’s still easy to forget just how strong their squad is due to the fact that their starting XI has been strong to the point that they’ve not needed to rotate.
One man who has suffered from this is Kenneth Zohore.
Zohore is something of a forgotten man at The Hawthorns, starting just five league games all season, and not appearing for over a month before this week’s FA Cup clash.
However, the Dane got his chance against Newcastle on Tuesday, coming on as a sub midway through the second half. He showed the hierarchy at West Brom exactly why they paid £8m for his services last summer.
The FA Cup is often treated as a chance for teams to rotate, but for the players, it’s their opportunity to impress, and Zohore made the most of it.
The striker saw less than half an hour of action on Tuesday, but he made an impressive impact.
Not only did he find the net, but he also set up a goal.
He was a constant thorn in the opposition defence’s side as well, getting three shots off with two of those being on target, a higher tally than Charlie Austin who played 67 minutes against the Magpies.
Calling all EFL experts: Can you get full marks on this stadiums quiz?
He wasn’t just a menace in front of goal either, he was brilliant when it came to making things happen as well as he played two key passes.
Austin must have been concerned by what he saw from Zohore here.
The former Southampton man has slipped down the pecking order at the Baggies in recent weeks, with Hal Robson-Kanu being the first-choice striker these days, and he may have just suffered another huge blow here.
Zohore put on a great showing against Premier League opposition and with the £3.6m-rated attacker scoring just once in his last 13 appearances this could see him slip even further down the pecking order when it comes to being Bilic’s favoured striker.
The manager certainly has some thinking to do ahead of the Midlands club’s next game.
In other news, West Brom dodged a transfer bullet in the summer.
